Avi Rikan – Under The Radar
Continuing the series on underrated and unnoticed players in Israel, Avi Rikan is the next player to come under our magnifying glass. Originally a left sided midfielder, Rikan has been playing at left-back for the past few years now at Beitar Jerusalem and on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva . Rikan has had a solid season with 24 appearances and looks to continue his good form next season. Rikan has made several appearances in the U-21 squad, including the last three games, and has put in solid performances. Although not a big or fast player, Rikan makes up for it with good positioning and is a hard worker on both sides of the ball. He is an excellent crosser of the ball, is confident with the ball at his feet and is a good passer. If Rikan can continue to improve as a player, he may catch the eye of the new National Team manager Luis Fernandez, who will be looking for quality at the left-back position. Although he is unlikely to move to a bigger club this summer, don’t be surprised if he does. Rikan is still only 21 years old and still has room for improvement, which can only benefit him and the National Team.
