Itay Shechter and Gil Vermouth move to Kaiserslautern
After nearly half a year of speculation Itay Shechter has signed with German Bundesliga club FC Kaiserslautern, and quite surprisingly his teammate Gil Vermouth has come along for company as well. Shechter who had an outstanding season ending last year and promising start to the one that just ended this year, before being injured for most of the season, was a prime candidate to leave Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Shechter is a pacy forward with good technical ability, and can hold the ball up well for his size although his often more effective on the wing running at players and getting behind the back line to cause havoc. Vermouth is a poor man’s Andres Iniesta, who has a great first touch, has a great eye for an assist and is very intelligent on and off the ball. He also possesses a good turn of pace but nothing that is going to blow away the opposition. Vermouth hardly ever gives away possession, and is a great dribbler of the ball. He also has an eye for goal which makes him hard to defend. Both players get back and defend well. I expect both of them, especially Vermouth will meet or exceed expectations for their new club. I think the style of the Bundeslia fits both, although I think if Shechter is able to stay healthy and become a better player he has a higher ceiling for success. In addition the experience of playing in a better league like the Bundesliga can only help both players make the national team more succesful. The total sum of the transfer amounted to about 3.3 million Euros for both players. Best of luck to both of them.
