News and Scores

Motti Ivanir has refused to become Beitar Jerusalem’s new manager after he was offered the position by Beitar chairman Itzik Kornfein. Ivanir cited what he saw as the financial instability of the club and other undisclosed reasons. However, Beitar quickly moved on and are close to signing Eli Cohen as their new manager  until the end of season, with an option for next season.

Israel’s Ligat Ha’al was in full action this weekend. Just one game remains from this round, with Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Petah Tikva squaring off today. Here are the scores.

Ashdod 3 – Hapoel Haifa 2, Sakhnin 2 – Acco 1, Hapoel Petah Tikva 3 – Netanya 1, Hapoel Tel Aviv 2 – Rishon Lezion 1, Bnei Yehuda 1 – Maccabi Tel Aviv 0, Ramat HaSharon 2- Beitar Jerusalem 0, Kiryat Shmona 1 – Beersheva 1.

Highlights include Maccabi Tel Aviv’s loss to Bnei Yehuda, and well as Beersheva taking points from league leaders Kiryat Shmona away.

Israel’s league will be reduced to 14 teams next season, in an aim to improve the quality of the league. Hopefully this will be the case as the product of the Israeli league has suffered this season, mainly due to an outflow of the league’s most talented players in the last two seasons.
