Nir Biton – Player Profile

Nir Biton has attracted interest from clubs abroad after his good performances in the Israeli league during this season, not to mention his unusual size of 1.95 meters makes him an unusual player for his position of central midfielder. Biton has scored 5 goals in all competitions this year, and made the news this January when he impressed during a trial with Manchester City. However, it would be a poor move on Biton’s part to go there, considering they already have an excellent player in Yaya Toure who plays a similar position. Previous National Team Manager Luis Fernandez recognized his talent and called up him at the age of 18 for friendlies against Uruguay and Chile. Biton has been linked with the French club Marseille, and Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa. Biton has good awareness and decision making for a player of his age, and has a great long distance shot.  He also has an excellent passing range and is deceptively strong despite looking to be a touch on the skinny side. I think Biton is likely to go abroad this summer and a good move for him would be to a mid level club in the Netherlands or in Spain, where I think the playing style would suit him best.  He is currently the biggest talent of his generation in Israel and has avoided a lot of the hype that other players have received. I hope he doesn’t choose the wrong team this summer to go to.
